So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish

A part of Toronto since I've lived in the city was towed away today.  I think it was inevitable and will support waterfront development overall but sad to see the Jadran leave all the same.  I'm glad Captain John Letnik was able to be on board for the boat's final trip to the scrapyard.  Captain John says, "We’re going to have a party".  See The Star for the full story.  Safe sailing and thanks for all the fish.

A Matter of Perspective

Dudley was happy to get back to the Palace of Purification on the weekend.  It's been a long, cold winter and it was great to get back to the beach.  The Palace has been undergoing renovations for the last year or so and is looking particularly good these days.

Automatic Sprinkler Co. of America

Due to some laneway construction at the Distillery District, I had to look for an alternative route to find my way to Pikto and passed by this cool old guage in one of the few spots you can find a way into the alley.

Red of Winter

One of five winning Winter Stations Design submissions out of just under 200 entries (incorporating an existing lifeguard stand) produced by over 400 people from 36 countries around the world.  The entry is called, Sling Swing and was created by Ed Butler, Dan Wiltshire & Frances McGeown.  You can actually swing on the slings.  I arrived just before sunrise and had the installation and the cold beach to myself (and yes, I did go for a swing).

Black Ice

I finally ventured down to the lake to see what "ice monsters" had formed.  It was chilly but beautiful and worth the trip.

Snow Day

Thanks to 8-9 inches of fresh snow, slippery conditions on the Parkway, and a near full moon, my 30 minute morning commute extended to 2 hours today.  Thankfully, the return trip home was less eventful.

Like others, I was fascinated by the brief glimpse into lives previously lived in this partially demolished building in Regent Park.

A Question of Balance

I was at the WaterWorks this evening getting ready to take Dudley for a walk and I saw this guy climb up on the railing.  At first I thought he might be getting ready to jump into the lake but he slowly stood up on the rail and spent a good 5-10 minutes walking along the handrail demonstrating amazing balance.  Should he have slipped, it's about a 20-30 foot drop into a chilly Lake Ontario on the other side but he never came close.

Hard Hats

I spent part of the day spelunking through the Ashbridges Treatment Plant with Frank Lemire, William Self and Alan Hindle.  It was great to tour the facility with a group and to see what caught everyone's eye and the images captured.  Check out their individual sites to see more and click the big button below to see my photos so far from this second visit.  It was a great day and many thanks to Plant Technician, David Dickson as well as Hassan for the tour and hospitality (and to David for taking this shot).
