Kodachrome Kids

While I didn't take this photo, I'm in it along with my older brother and sister. My Dad (William A. Mitchener) was pretty handy with a camera and took many shots of us growing up. Most of these were developed on Kodachrome slides and have managed to retain their colour and vibrance after all these years. This is one of my favourite.

In a Suburban World

Fall, a decent season following the best season of all, followed by 7 or 8 months of winter hell (but it's all good).

Leafgazing

Fresh back from a trip to Killbear Provincial Campground, I have a few pictures to post. Admittedly, I was somewhat obsessed with photographing the first signs of fall in what was a glorious 1.5 weeks of summer weather so expect a few more autumnish photos. Killbear is/was as beautiful as always and we just beat a nasty run of rainy weather home.  For a cooler, wetter summer than normal, I'm feeling fortunate to have that long of a dry spell.

A rare intersection of fog, streetcar, neon, and Beach landmark. Taken on a rare run of foggy evenings in the Beach.

Brunch Butts

If you know any of these people, don't tell them about this picture. Taken at the funky OK OK Diner in Leslieville one sunny Sunday morning over a delicious brunch. The technique used (no, I wasn't lying on the floor) was to balance my camera on my knee under the table at the booth across the aisle and to shoot more or less blind between bites of French toast. Check out OK OK if you haven't been before, it's a great spot.

I'm hoping this was the last snowfall of the season. Spring is officially here and I'm officially done with winter. Nessie calls.

Looking forward to Frank Lemire's opening reception for his Provincial: Landscapes from Ontario's Provincial Parks show at Lazy Daisy's on January 10th. It's a subject near to my own heart and Frank does it so well. Hope to see you there.

Frank Lemire:

Come see a show that has been years in the making - weeks at a time camping in Ontario's beautiful provincial parks.

I will be showing a set of canvas prints with my favorite photos from Algonquin Park, Killbear, The Pinery, MacGregor Point and Bon Echo.

The show runs from January 2nd to February 4th.

The opening reception is on Thursday January 10th from 7-9. There will be a cash bar and nibbles.

I hope you can make it to the opening to toast my latest work or drop by the cafe anytime during the month for a great cup of coffee and a farm fresh, local & all natural snack.
